This is Liliana Vasquez, YI board member from Peru and today I would like to share our wonderful experience in the III Conference SLAOP-SIOP of Young Investigators held on April 3, 2019 in Guayaquil, Ecuador (SLAOP 2019).
This was our third regional experience of the YI session in collaboration with SLAOP and was aimed at young professionals from Latin America with an interest in pediatric oncology research.
Almost 60 junior researchers joined the session! Our featured speakers included Monika Metzger, (Hospital St. Jude, USA), Cesar Nuñez (MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA), Karina Ribeiro (School of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo), Guillermo Chantada (Hospital Garrahan, Buenos Aires, Argentina), Sumit Gupta (Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto, Canada), and Sandra Luna-Fineman (Children's Hospital Colorado).
The program included topics about:
· How to start in the field of research?
· Translational medicine: From the basic to the clinical
· Mentoring for young researchers
· Research opportunities in Latin America
· Tips on writing manuscripts and reviewing articles
· Epidemiological and survival studies in pediatric cancer
