Please meet Sonia Simon, YI from Peru, in their own words.
I am Sonia Simon, a radiation oncologist at Rebagliati Hospital in Lima, Peru. Since my undergraduate studies at San Marcos University, I have been interested in research and continuous training, this is how rotating at Weill Cornell University-New York motivated me to show the medicine of my country to the world. When I finished my training as a specialist in Radiotherapy, I rotated in Santiago de Chile – IRAM Clinic, with the aim of learning new treatment techniques that could benefit my patients. With what has been learned during these years of academic training and promoted by the attendings of the Radiation Oncology Service, we set the goal of reporting the casuistry of our pediatric patients, which can contribute to the scientific community and show possible treatments in rare pediatric diseases.
We achieved the first objective, which is to present 02 clinical cases and 01 case series at SIOP 2023. I have the vision that the Radiotherapy Service of my hospital continues to grow in techniques and applying modern protocols for pediatric patients, thus seeking our second objective: to become a reference hospital for the management of pediatric oncological pathologies. Other oncology topics in which I participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team are gynecological tumors, lung cancer and cancer of the central nervous system.
