Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS)

Hi everyone,
I am Austin Brown, a molecular epidemiologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas (USA). Over the past several years, I have been fortunate to collaborate with the . I am pleased to announce the CCSS has released applications for the 2019 CCSS Career Development Award. The CCSS is a National Cancer Institute (U24 CA55727) funded, multi-institutional study designed to evaluate the long-term consequences of childhood cancer and therapy. The cohort includes approximately 35,000 >5 year survivors of childhood cancer (diagnosed 1970-1999) and 5,000 unaffected siblings. Since 1994, participants have completed multiple self-administered health questionnaires to evaluate the broad range of late effects that impact this population. In addition, detailed treatment histories, individual characteristics, and genome-wide genetic information are available on CCSS participants. Therefore, the CCSS provides the unique opportunity to characterize the multifactorial etiology of psychosocial outcomes, organ dysfunction, and subsequence malignancies in the decades following a childhood cancer diagnosis.
The CCSS Career Development Award is an opportunity to develop and complete an initial study within the CCSS. The objective of the CCSS Career Development Award is to offer early career investigators a foundation to launch a career in childhood cancer survivorship research. Two CCSS Career Development Awards are available, one for junior faculty ($20,000 over 1-year) and one for trainees ($3,000 for travel to the CCSS Investigators’ meeting or another scientific conference). Applications for the CCSS Career Development Award are due by October 1, 2018 and individuals from all countries and institutions are welcome to apply.
