Find an Expert (and a Friend)

Over the last several years, as new and innovative treatments have been developed for pediatric cancers in higher income countries, the survival disparity in low-middle-income countries (LMICs) has become increasingly profound and unacceptable. Members of SIOP North America realized something needed to be done to bridge this gap and many had already initiated efforts to develop twinning programs to improve care in partner institutions. With the goal of synthesizing the knowledge and experience of these individuals briefly into a database of “experts,” the “Find an Expert” section at www.cancerpointe.com was developed. While we may not all consider ourselves to be true experts in navigating the obstacles encountered when trying to improve cancer care globally, we have big hearts, a desire to help and have a good understanding of the benefits and limitations of practicing pediatric oncology in LMICs.
All experts have considered their time and availability when volunteering services they are willing and able to offer. These services, in addition to their regional experience, professional experience and languages spoken, are listed next to their name in our database. Services offered include:
  • Providing patient management advice
  • Virtual mentoring and education
  • Editing abstracts and manuscripts
  • Mentoring for research and drug development
  • Local site assessment
  • On-site education and assistance with patient management
Experts speak at least 12 different languages and have experience working with pediatric oncology teams in over 30 LMICs. Many can mentor virtually and many are able to travel for in-person relationship building and training. All experts can be reached directly via their email addresses in the Find an Expert section of www.cancerpointe.com or we can match anyone needing assistance with the best expert to fit his/her needs!
Our goal is to reach practitioners who are at the bedside providing care and trying to improve survival in their institutions, many of whom do not have the time and funding to travel internationally for training and conferences. This is a great way to get immediately help, but also to build a long-term partnership and friendship. So please reach out! Our experts would love to hear from you!
